Who I Am

Esmeralda Cantu-Castle is a mother, advocate, and law student answering a call to serve her community. After losing her daughter, Navy Seaman Angelina Petra Resendiz, Esmeralda transformed her pain into purpose fighting for justice, accountability, and change not just for her family, but for families everywhere.

For over a decade, Esmeralda has worked alongside the only civil rights and employment law attorney here in Cameron County standing up for working people and helping families navigate systems often stacked against them. That experience deepened her understanding of how laws and policies directly affect everyday Texans and why real change must start with leaders who put people first.

Now a law student at Mitchell Hamline School of Law, Esmeralda studies the very systems she seeks to improve ensuring that the law serves as a tool for fairness, not a barrier to justice. Through her advocacy, she has collaborated with veterans, lawmakers, and local organizations to push for greater transparency, fairness, and reform.

Deeply rooted in the Rio Grande Valley, Esmeralda has led and supported a variety of community service projects from sewing circles and resource fairs to neighborhood clean-ups and environmental efforts all focused on uplifting families and creating opportunities close to home.

She believes what’s good for one family should be good for all, and not come at the harm of any. That true progress comes when we invest time and effort into people, education, entrepreneurship, local businesses, health, and the environment that sustains us.

Esmeralda didn’t choose this path, it choose her. This is her answering the call to serve, to lead, and to help build something better for all of us.

Her campaign is about compassion, community, and hope by building a stronger, more resilient District 37 where every family has the chance to thrive.
